Social Media can be a POWERFUL partner in building any business online. The problem is most people tend to use this partnership wrong and shoot themselves in the foot, producing the exact opposite results they are looking for and crippling their business.
It was only a few months ago that we were caught in this trap. As with most people who get involved in a Network Marketing Company we were excited about the company, passionate about the product, and posted it randomly in Facebook groups, business pages, and our own personal timeline. We also sent messages to people we hadn’t seen in 20 years hoping they would be interested in our business.
This is a common problem most network marketers have. In fact, many companies teach you how to join groups and encourage you to post in this fashion. We go to our profiles and plaster products and company links hoping that it might attract someone to become a customer or team member. We use words like “Come Join Our Team” or “Try My Products” on Facebook and post our company link for people to see on our status updates, profile page, in a group, or through a personal message?
If any of these scenarios describes your actions, you are like we were and doing it wrong. You are actually repelling the very people you’re trying so hard to attract! These methods are what we did when in our amateur mode of building a network marketing business online. It comes off spammy and turns people off.
However, all is not lost. You can change the results by moving from the amateur to the professional ranks and learn how to build on Facebook the right way! It’s important to point out that you can have success using either. One method is extremely limited, while the other is highly scalable, so the choice that scales is naturally a better option to successfully build your business long-term. You do want a long-term business, right? So let’s dig into the detail needed for success.
Personal Facebook Profiles
We have friends who have succeded in building their businesses using their personal profile. However, the main problem you face when using your personal profile is that Facebook caps you at 5,000 friends. This is a firm limitation, that also limits your expose to less than 5% of your friends because of Facebook’s algorithms. Facebook algorithms can be a network marketers best friend or their worst enemy.
Facebook’s algorithms are your worst enemy if you are an amateur spaming your company link and opportunity all over the place hoping and praying someone buys your product, or joins your team. However, when the algorithms are used right, they can be your best friend, putting you and your opportunity in front of thousands of people in a short period of time. Your personal profile limits you because Facebook does not want personal profiles used as a vehicle for building a business…“ It is against their rules.
If Facebook identifies you are using your personal profile for business purposes, such as posting links and crowding everybody else’s News Feed with a bunch of products you could have your account suspended “AKA placed in Facebook Jail”. The consequences are worse if you use private messaging in the wrong way because you could end up being permanently banned from Facebook.
But, the biggest limitation is not being able to run ads on your personal profile.
Using ads might sound strange to people in old school network marketing and you might wonder, “Why would I want to run advertising if the name of the game is to personally sponsor and recruit people. The reason is you want a large audience exposed to your business, and can only get that from ads. Using ads isn’t required in this strategy, however it is powerful when used correctly and will build your network ten times faster compared to not using ads.

Do you know anyone that joined a network marketing company and 6 months to a year later hit the top ranks of their company? Maybe you’ve witnessed it first hand in your own company. Does it make you wonder “What does that person have that I don’t have?” The answer is simple, they have a network! They have a network of people who know, like, and trust them. It doesn’t matter what that person does, their network wants to do it also.

In fact, it’s central to the Facebook business model and supported by the proper algorithms. Making the Fan Page a perfect place to grow your “network”!
Keeping Business and Life Separate
One of the things we’ve always hated, especially as we grew into the the Network Marketing Profession, was having our personal life and business life mixed together on Facebook. At first, we did what a lot of networkers do and added a bunch of people we didn’t know onto our friends list, which meant we had all these people in our News Feeds who we didn’t know and really didn’t care about. And to top it off, we had friends blocking us because they were tired of us always talking about our business, when they frankly didn’t care. Who can blame them! We know this because we were using old school techniques, taught by many network marketing companies today in their standard training programs. We also tried to recruit in this fashion with absolutely no success! This is why a Fan Page was a breath of fresh air. It allowed us to separate our personal life from our business life. Now that we have separated our business and personal stuff, it’s been great to be on Facebook again!
Lead and Sale Generation
Fan Pages are intended for an ever-expanding audience with the purpose of generating leads and sales. As a business owner, that’s what you want, right?
Now what does that mean in the context of a healthy business? We personally add 500 – 1350 new fans every month to our Fan Page and do not have to pay for these leads. Pretty cool, right? These people aren’t random strangers that we go in and add to our page ourselves either (that is a good way to get blocked). They have to physically “like” our page themselves, which makes them a higher quality prospect! That wouldn’t be possible using a personal profile, because it’s capped. It’s also full of your friends and family and probably a lot of people that don’t like network marketing, let alone your opportunity.
If fact, right now we have an ever increasing set of fans on our Fan Page, and that means massive leverage. Those are all people we can promote business to and share value with, in the context of network marketing and direct sales it does not get any better.
Building an Asset
The real advantage of having a Fan Page is you are building an asset with tremendous leverage. Once you set up your engagement strategy, you can walk away and your business will essentially work on autopilot 24 hours per day 7 days a week. How about that for time freedom!
Compare that to a personal profile, where you need to constantly post new stuff. And most likely this new Network Marketing buisiness stuff only annoys your friends and family. No only that, it is gone in the blink of an eye, likely without gaining much traction or interest. Plus, other network marketers you friended are probably doing the exact same thing as you too, so you basically just spamming each other, and everyone cancels each other out. Not a good plan!
So, as opposed to wasting time doing all that nonsense, a Fan Page allows you to generate exposure passively, so you can generate leads, customers, and recruits while you sleep, or are out to dinner, at a football game, on vacation, or at sea taking a long cruise…You get the idea. Passive Recruiting.
One final thought, let’s quickly talk about the difference between active recruiting and passive recruiting. The posts we share on our Fan Page are planned well in advance. In fact, we always have days, even weeks, of posts scheduled and ready to go. And they’ll go out without us even being at the computer. You can’t do this on a personal profile, which only allows for real-time updates. In addition, we generate those 500 -1350 fans every month, without having to hover over our Fan Page constantly. Most importantly, we are able to run ads on our Fan Page that generate leads, sales, and new business recruits on autopilot. That is the power of a Fan Page! You are able to leverage Facebook’s industry-leading advertising platform.
This strategy is our favorite because it’s 100% passive. In fact, there is no way we could produce the same results using our personal Facebook Profiles. We generate “FREE” leads every day and also multiple new customers and serious business builders every month. All of this has led to a healthy income that allows us to take control of our lives and it happens almost 100% on autopilot.
Now, that doesn’t mean we don’t work our business…We work on our business as opposed to in our business. We don’t have to worry about going out and spending endless hours finding people, doing cold calls to people who are not interested, paying someone for worthless leads who have been approached over and over again and are not interested, delevoping complicated AdWords campaigns, or sending endless messages on Facebook anymore because people find us!

The real benefit of using a Fan Page, running Facebook ads, scaling your reach, and scheduling your posts, is reclaiming your life. When we took our business online, we were finally able to build our business without having to harass friends and family, make endless cold calls, pay for worthless leads sold by the many online lead suppliers, or having to talk to strangers in public places. The feeling was liberating!
Now we can enjoy life in public like normal human beings.
As we’ve started succeeding in our business using Internet strategies, we’ve fired our job bosses, taken several great vacations to places we love to visit, are enjoying quality family time and vacations together, and now have plans to visit more exotic locations, plus we never once think about recruiting anybody. All because it’s already happening passively on the Internet!

If you want to build real relationships in this profession, beyond a few scattershot private messages, your audience needs to see that you are up to something bigger. How by building a legitimate business Page you are building an asset, you are generating leads and followers, and you are doing it passively. When people in the network marketing profession see that, they will be impressed and want to know what you are doing. In fact, people in any business want to know what you are doing! All of a sudden, you become interesting and attractive in a different way. It is not about your company, it’s not about your products or services, it is about what YOU, as an individual, and what you have to offer. You have “Branded YOUSELF” as a leader in the industry. That is what it takes to move to the next level in your network marketing business.
