Build Your Business With Confidence In 4 Simple Steps
When I first started in Network Marketing fear ruled my life.
- The fear of rejection
- The fear of losing friends
- The fear of criticism
- The fear of what my colleagues might think of me
Status has a funny why of ruling our lives sometimes…
You name it, in the beginning I was paralyzed with all kinds of fear.
Have you been there?
You see, I had a dream but my wife well she had a problem with the profession. I’d been involved in a couple network marketing companies, as I’ve told you on some of my Facebook lives, and they never worked out the way she expected.
What she saw was people I brought into the profession playing around and failing miserably, spending a bunch of money they didn’t have, on products they didn’t sell, only to give up and quit a couple of months later.
Plus she also hated the “hype” that came at every live event we went to.
You could say she had no faith in the profession! LOL
Now a wife not believing in what your doing would drive most people out of the business so…
I’m sure you’re thinking to yourself, if my wife had a problem with the profession and no faith in network marketing, why did I keep going?
Simple, I had faith in myself. Not only that I had a burning desire to change our lives for the better. I wanted to quit that corporate job, I just hated, and bring joy into our kids and grandkids lives.
Plus our Plan A retirement was broken and I knew it. So to maintain our lifestyle I needed a Plan B.
And quite frankly we didn’t have 30-40 year to put a Plan B together.
We had some residual income already and I knew the power of this kind of income…
I wanted more.
So I was willing to do anything (well it had to be in line with my morals, ethics, and values) to have additional residual income and make money while I slept!
So what kept me going and made me unstoppable?
I want to share four simple steps I took to grow my confidence in this profession. Focusing on these steps put me on a path to success and stopped the fear that was ruling my life.
When I decided that I didn’t care what others thought of me the first step I took was to commit to a learning program. I truly believe self-education is the gateway to success (not that provided by our current broken school system).
Learning is essential to your growth. It allows you to stretch yourself and your business to new heights.
Your business will be as big as the leader you become.
So it is essential to focus on you, read books, listen to audio trainings, attending events, and the critical element is to investing in mentorship.
I searched out mentorship in this profession, following what they did to obtain what they had. It only makes sense if you duplicate what successful people do you’ll get what they have.
Many of my current mentors I’d never met, while others I was already working with.
Seeking out mentorship it is the vital first step!
At first I sucked at everything!
And after I went through my warm market the biggest problem I had was no one to talk to.
I knew finding fresh prospects was needed and did all kinds of stupid things to get them.
Have you ever paid for those “quality leads” that are sold on the internet? You know the ones you call up and don’t ever know if they are alive, that is if they answer the phone or ever return your call. LOL
Finding quality people to talk to is vital to the growth of your business…
But I got so tired of talking to all the dead beats that had absolutely no interest in improving their lives – for whatever reason they gave.
So I sought out a mentor who knew how to target the right people so when you called they had a clue and are interested in what you have.
Now my recruiting is on autopilot and I only talk to interested prospects I want on our team.
There are lots of other skills you need to sharpen on a regular basis. Some of these include:
- Building relationships
- Presenting your opportunity
- Overcoming objections
- Following up
And how do you improve - practice. There is no such thing as instant gratification in a Network Marketing business no matter what that upline tells you.
Building a business takes time and effort thus it takes practice.
Sharpening your skills takes work, passion, and the desire to succeed. But it’s all worth it when you can finally call yourself a master recruiter, that sought after speaker, or just knowing exactly how to overcome objections.
Entrepreneurs think differently than people in the everyday work place. Challenges, growth, and helping other succeed bring them happiness. They’re willing to make sacrifices today, to have everything they want in life tomorrow.
Now I’m going to tell up front reprogramming your mind is not easy. It’s hard to get out of that employee mindset of trading time for money. But, if you are willing to be patient and do whatever it takes to have the freedom you will get that lifestyle you want.
A mentor once told me I had to focus on 2 things to clean up my mind: Feed my mind with positive and protect my mind from the negative world.
As he use to put it: “You wouldn’t let a garbage man drive up to your living room and dump his load of garbage in your house so why would you let a person dump their load of garbage into your mind.”
Now this is even more hilarious because before he made his fortune in Network Marketing Terry, a mentor and the man giving the advice, was a garbage man. LOL!
So I took his words to heart and made a pledge to myself to be more positive, to always find the good in things, and start to eliminate the negative out of my life.
It’s amazing how differently I look at life because of that commitment. My life is far from perfect, and my business isn’t where I want it to be yet. But I’m happy. I wake up happy and not only that people I’m attracting into our business are just as happy as I am. Go figure.
Here is a simple truth that many people will not accept: until we change, nothing will change.
Every day I watch that dream movie showing my wife and me taking our grandkids on a fully paid by us Disney cruise and program my mind to deliver the results.
When you say it long enough, you start to believe it! 🙂
Now to be honest, as a military guy, this idea of finding a dream and your why was just foreign to me. I was taught to get the mission done no matter what. There was no emotion just get it done.
So I didn’t really have an emotional dream or why.
That has completely changed during this extraordinary journey into entrepreneurship. My why - my dream has become a massive force in my life. And now it’s not just about more money. (Although I do like the money.) 🙂
I had to dig deep to find a dream and a why that motivated me. We were pretty comfortable already.
But after months of dealing with the rejection, criticism, and judgment of friends and family, if I didn’t have that burning desire to change our lives and help other people do the same, I think I would have quit.
My will was truly tested. It’s a good thing I’m not a quitter and did what I said I would do, because staying the course allowed me to quite that job I hated and establish a Plan B for our retirement.
Ask yourself why are you doing this? What is your real dream? You need to have a dream so powerful you stay the course no matter what that negative relative says.
Are you willing to give up some time, invest some money, and change your mindset to make this work? This is a business and takes sacrifice like any other business.
No matter what that upline promises to get you into this profession, it isn’t easy but it is worth it!
Are you willing to give up:
- Bad Habits
- Maybe even some of those old “friends”
One final note - who are you willing to associate with? Do the people you hang around with support you and build you up? Or are you hanging around people that drag you down?
Associating with the right people in life is a choice and it’s also critical to your success.
Remember, you become like the 5 people you hang around. So pick your friends wisely. Some of our best friends come from this business now. There is a certain joy connecting with like minded people.
So surround yourself with those on the same mission as you.
I know if you commit to these 4 simple steps, you’ll see a massive change in your business.
You’ll attract quality people to your business because they want to work with you. People are looking for someone who knows without a doubt where they’re going in life, how to get there, and how to show others the path to their dreams.
