If you choose to become an entrepreneur and build a business of any kind you'll have good and bad times.
That said, this is what I discover on my entrepreneurial journey…
Most of my struggles were inside me…
...rather than from outside forces.
The key to success is to not only to learn the skills or our profession but to also work on our mindset.
Let’s be honest with each other, people struggle when trying something new that’s just how it is.
And for those just getting started in network marketing success can often seem like a far off land that is impossible to reach. I know it did for me when I was just getting started.
I had to address my mindset and overcome my inner fears that kept me from succeeding in network marketing.
Remember what Eric Worre says: “Network Marketing is not perfect but it is a better way.”

The day my business started to take off was the day I understood it was up to me. This is a big one and if you’re like I was you don't want to hear it, but it’s an undeniable truth.
Let’s face it network marketing can be overwhelming to learn.
For that matter just knowing how to get started can be difficult. The problem is the majority of those just getting started in network marketing blame everyone but themselves for all the things that go wrong.
The reality is quite different; the only person responsible for your success is you.
I blamed everyone, but guess what blaming everyone but myself did not help me make money.
And after all making money was why I got involved with network marketing how about you?
The hard truth is you, and you alone, are responsible for your business!
It all begins and ends with you…
Once I took responsibility for my business and began the process of building that business...
All the negative people in my life come out of the woodwork to tell me I couldn’t do it.
The world is full of negative people and you'll come across those who don’t believe in you, or what you’re doing.
But when you take responsibility it does not matter what they say, you can do it.
I had to learn to be stronger than the negativity. And quite frankly, I learned to not give a rip what they thought. They were not feeding my family or paying my bills.
How did I get to this attitude?
I searched for and found mentorship.
When I started in network marketing my upline sponsored me and then quite.
I became an “orphan”.
So I took responsibility and searched for someone I related too and someone who was willing to mentor me.
This is what you may have to do also in order to get the attitude nothing is going to stop me!
Years later I’ve become a mentor...
I mentor people both inside and outside my team...
...and am happy to teach people who want to learn how to build a business.
It is rewarding to see someone take advice and succeed.
So seek and you will find a mentor.
Remember, it’s up to you to ask for help.
No one can read your mind.
You MUST GO BACK TO SCHOOL!
I spent five years of my life going to school just to get a job and another two years going back to school so I could be promoted.
Network marketing is new to most of us so going back to school is essential to learn the basics.
Find someone who will teach you not just “what to do” but “how to do it.”
I tell my team it is important to focus on educating themselves for the first couple of months after starting a new business and work with them not just on “what to do” but “how to do it.”
This advice is difficult to hear, because most of us want to make money instantly!
That does not mean you can't earn while you learn. It is critical you learn some basic skill to work this business successfully.
You may not want to hear this but the only way you will make big money in network marketing is to master a set of skills and then be able to teach these skills to your team.
You’ve got to learn how our profession works.
When I first got started in my network marketing journey I didn't take the time to learn any skills.
If fact I thought I knew it all and went out on my own (the lone ranger) to concur the world.
Only after getting beat up over and over again did I grasp how important going back to school was.
Don’t be like me….
Place yourself on a personal development program. Learn the skillsets, listened to videos, read the books, watch the webinars, go to your company’s meetings, and listened to the CDs. But most important reach out and find a mentor!
It is critical you learn how to provide value to your customer and team…
How do you do this?
By educating yourself!
Speaking of that…

Get out of your comfort zone and like everyone who has succeeded before you the beginning will be messy!
If you are like I was network marketing was my first attempt at starting a business. So I had a massive learning cure.
If you treat this like a business and not a lottery ticket you’ll be learning something new every day.
One of the key skillset is to connect with people.
And I hate to the bearer of bad news…
But you won’t make it big in network marketing by hiding behind your computer screen.
You most likely will feel uncomfortable trying new things that you haven't done before.
In my early growth period we had morning team calls and one day a week my upline wanted people to share what was going on in their business. We had a large team and I had to overcome my fear of speaking.
I was always the mystery caller who no one knew because I never spoke.
I was scared to speak…and thought people would think I was stupid…but one morning I spoke anyway.
What I found out was the more I spoke the better I got and my fear eventually went away.
Leaders push past their fear.
And here is an uncomfortable fact…
If you’re not willing to push past your comfort zone, face your fears, and actually talk to people to offer your solutions, chances are you probably will not be successful in network marketing.
If you can’t get past your fear you can always keep that job you hate.
Success is what I want for you.
Know that it’s okay to feel fear – it means you’re growing, and that’s a good thing.
Embrace the fear and move forward.
It’s critical to use your time wisely!
If you are like I was and have a demanding job while starting your business, you will need to become a time management expert.
Your new business is like a newborn – it requires nurturing, attention, caring…and most importantly a consistent investment of time.
You need to carve out consistent time every single day to work on your business.
Doesn’t matter where you are.
When I first started this journey I was travelling three weeks out of the month and putting in over 80 hours a week at work. So I had to become a master at time management.
I remember doing calls in the corner of some airport or attending online meetings while driving to work.
The skills I learned have paid big dividends now that I’ve fired my boss and retired into my business.
Look, I know you probably think you don’t have time but let’s be honest with each other if I can do this business with the schedule you just read you can too.
Turn your car into a “rolling university” by listening to CDs while you’re driving.
Or…like I did, turn your car into your office and your commute into business time.
Life is crazy but if you want that freedom you will have to pay the price!
Every second you spend on your business will help it grow that much faster.
How do you do it all?
Well, you prioritize.
I always set up my day the night before.
Just decide what is the one thing you must get done and start there.
You must be patient!
I was like the buzzards in the cartoon “Patience my xxx I’m going to kill something.”
The truth is most “brick and mortar businesses” do not make a profit the first 5 years of the business. They consider it a HUGE success if they can turn a profit after a couple of years.
When my daughter owned her gym franchise she didn’t turn a profit until after year 5.
Don’t believe me check out the statistic from any small business association.
My daughter found out her small business had unbelievable stress. It was her dream but she finally realized she had bought herself a job and not a good one.
She only got paid after all the employees got paid and all the other bills were paid. Honestly she didn't get paid very much and was doing the majority of the work.
She finally sold her business at a loss, joined me in network marketing, and has never looked back!
I tell you this story to help you set realistic expectations.
Money might not start rolling in after a few days, even a few months, or if you are a hard head like I was even after a year.
It depends on your personal goals, your ability to be "coachable", and your speed of implementation.
So if you are in a day job, don’t quit your day job until you start producing some profit.
Look, it’s no secret that building a business takes time, effort, and lots of patience. Don’t be one of those who pretend it doesn’t.
Finally, choose how you want to build your business and master it.
I’m going to upset some of our industry’s dinosaurs who tell you there is only one way to build a network marketing business, their way, typically is “old school”.
I’ve been fortunate in my network marketing career to work with several innovative mentors who taught me multiple ways to build a network marketing business.
And as I matured and learned I eventually choose a path and mastered it.
So what are the choices?
There are three primary ways you can build your business:
Each strategy has it’s pros and it’s cons.
For your own peace of mind, it is critical you find a mentor who can get out of their own comfort zone and teach you a strategy that best fits how you want to build a business.
As for me the most effective way I’ve built my business was through attraction marketing.
Unfortunately in our profession many upline tell you “what to do” but never teach you “how to do it.”
Be honest, most uplines tell you “What to do” but never teach you "how to do it."
You know the dill, if you through enough mud on the wall some of it will stick coaching. J

So let’s review…
The one thing I’ve learned is when things don’t “click” you can always course correct and get back on the path to your dreams.
Again, I really want to stress the patience aspect of building a business, because if people don’t see income coming in quick enough, often they get flustered, and then they quit.
Like I said before, I don’t want to see you quit.
Failure can be the foundation of success.
Success is a process and doesn’t happen overnight.
Every step you take gets you closer to your dreams.
Everything you learn makes you more and more valuable to others, who will ultimately see you as the leader that can help them in their quest for freedom.
So follow the above tips, relax, persevere, and always be patient!
