The Problems With Prospecting And Recruiting

August 2017 marked 10 years (2007) since I was first introduced to network marketing that led to the world of entrepreneurship and lots of personal development. There have been both good and bad times during this extraordinary journey!

The good news is my story in this profession has a happy ending. I quit my job as a Corporate Executive in 2016 and have earned enough income to go full time in my business – FREEDOM!

Love this team!

My journey however was not without many blunders, embarrassing moments and more prospecting indiscretions than I care to share and I hope my family, friends, and those poor strangers I attempted to prospect have long forgotten the things I did wrong. LOL

Thankfully I found a FREE Step-By-Step Training that’s not the traditional RAH-RAH I’d received at all those events over the years and now….

I don’t repeat these embarrassing mistakes…

These are just a few errors in judgment made on this journey…

Have you ever invited friends and family over for a holiday dinner and in very poor taste transitioned to showing the plan and the great product line you have? I wonder why they are all angry? Well I have.

Have you ever tried to prospect your realtor on a cold call and have her respond immediately with, “Is this Amway?” Yes me too!

Here’s a good one… have you joined a local networking group, driven over an hour to get there because there was none close to you, because your upline told you these people are looking for an “opportunity” and it is a great place to prospect only to have everyone call you day after day to sell you their product? I already have a new roof thanks. Ya… did this one too.

Well you get the picture, I’m going to stop because I’m starting to get depressed remembering all these bad memories. Ha ha ha…

Many upline leaders teaching old school techniques are not going to be happy but I finally looked in the mirror one day and said this is not working…there has to be a better way. To be honest I made many mistakes, but that doesn’t mean we should go easy on those in the networking community. Some are making the same MAJOR prospecting mistakes with social media that I did when using old school techniques.

In my day, my fumbles happened offline and there is no record thank God.

Unfortunately, today…

The Internet Never Forgets and That Is Ruining It For Everyone Else

My mentors are 6- and 7- figure earner and professional marketers. They once told me that success in business is all about ‘time’, ‘place’ and, ‘message’.

Unfortunately, network marketers today are being taught online prospecting methods, which use the wrong message, delivered at the wrong time, and most definitely in all the wrong places

Here is the truth!

There is a VERY fine line between recruiting with social media and spamming people. Unfortunately most network marketers are being turned into human spam bots by their upline and company leaders who without prior results bring on “social media” programs that only teach spamming…

I call this the “Disposable Distributors Syndrome.” That is, the company’s downline is tasked with the job of spreading the word about their company’s products and opportunity, at the expense of the individual’s reputation and risking the suspension of their social media accounts…been there and done that…out of Facebook jail yet?

One of my best team members shared an examples of the WRONG WAY to prospect online, by sending me a screenshots of the poor attempt at prospecting she received from another company before she joined our team…have you seen these kind of approaches?

The WRONG Way to Prospect and Recruit

Successful entrepreneurs and networkers alike eventually learn the true secret to success and it becomes the foundation upon which their entire prospecting, recruiting and business building strategy is originated.

The secret being: People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care. — Theodore Roosevelt.

The screenshots above is an example of a poor attempt of how many people recruit with social media…people who haven’t figured out building a business is not about tricking people or finding the right copy/paste Facebook messages to send to strangers and spam all over the internet.

It’s actually caring about people, becoming a person of value, and someone uniquely positioned to help them with their problems.

That last one is critical “uniquely positioned to help someone with their problems.”

Any idiot can copy and paste a message into a Group or as a Private Message on Facebook

So what sets someone apart from the rest of the desperate reps hitting people’s inboxes and spamming the internet with their “ground floor” opportunities or cash programs?

I’m not saying prospecting online doesn’t work. I know some very skilled recruiters who are outstanding at online prospecting, but just like offline old school prospecting, they’ve devoted the time and effort to learn this very difficult skill and have mastered it. And if that’s the strategy you want to deploy, you need to do it right!

Are you still a little fuzzy on whether you are a spammer or not, here’s a guide to help…

Top 5 Warning Signs That Your Prospecting Efforts are Actually SPAM

1) Your first private message to a stranger on social media includes a link to join your opportunity.

2) You get angry replies via private messaging and/or you have been reported as a spammer.

3) You post links to your opportunity or website in the comments section of other people’s social media post.

4) You compulsively want to talk about your company or products, without anyone asking you to share.

Finally…this one is the most important…

5) You engage in interactions online, with a hidden agenda, hoping to transition the topic to something that would get people interested in your opportunity, without caring about knowing the other person.

This last one for me is a big one but could also be controversial.

After all, #5 is the very definition of prospecting (online or offline), which even when done right…can still feel awkward, result in people getting angry at you and very unleveraged, which is why I eventually decided to stop prospecting all together.

But here’s the interesting thing after taking this FREE Step-By-StepTraining to learn how to…

“Stopped Prospecting People, My Business Started Growing!”

I can’t tell you how relieved and at peace I felt, when I once again, was able to go out with my friends, visiting a family member’s home, or go on vacation without having to think about prospecting anyone all the time.

Just enjoying being normal again, was incredible, after years of being taught by my upline that “everyone was a prospect” and approaching every conversation with a hidden agenda, I was finally free to live a normal life!

That’s because it wasn’t until I STOPPED prospecting, that my business actually started growing!

Weird, right?

At this point, you may be asking, “then how was it that your business grew?”

Before I answer that, I have to say there are people who are very skilled prospectors and recruiters who completely disregard the issues I mentioned above.

They knowingly and without shame, approach every interaction with a stranger as a prospecting opportunity.

Getting yelled at or cursed out by prospects is no big deal, as long as some people say ‘yes.’…you know: some will, some won’t, so what.

And just like doing it right offline, there’s a way to successfully do it online as well. After learning and becoming good at prospecting, I finally decided I didn’t want to build my business this way anymore.

The problem with prospecting in general, as old school methods teach, is the mindset going in. It is about what YOU want people to do and about manipulating people into doing what you want them to do.

In other words, it’s about YOU, not them. I didn’t like that, but I still did it until I found a better way.

The Alternative to Old School Prospecting, Which Won’t Make You Feel Like a Used Car Sales Man

Now, I’m not trying to be high and mighty about all this prospecting stuff, because I’m not.

If it came down to eating or starving I would still use ‘stone cold’ prospecting tactics without remorse.

But the reason I was able to quit prospecting was because, with the help of some extraordinary mentors, I eventually discovered an online recruiting strategy, which…

Enabled me to recruit more people in 1 Day, than the most skilled recruiter in the world can do in 1 Month…I was able to passively generate prospects, customers, and new representative who want to join my business when I’m out having fun with friends and family. In other words I didn’t have to worry about prospecting them!

Rather than spending hours spamming, joining endless groups, or private messaging people on social media; I learned how to legitimately get Facebook and other networks to actually help me attract the people who are most interested in what I have to offer, using their ads platform! WOW I have a normal life again!

In fact, every day now, I’ve awaken to an email inbox full of notifications for new prospects, new customers, new team members and commissions I earned while sleeping!

The powerful internet marketing strategy is designed for networkers and people in direct sales!

If your business depends on you being on social media, joining groups, sending private messages, or commenting on people’s posts all day, you are NOT doing internet marketing…despite what you have been led to believe.

Online prospecting and internet marketing are NOT the same thing!

Internet marketing is a passive strategy, which works, even when you are not!

If you want to learn how it works, I actually reveal the entire strategy I’m using in a FREE Step-By-Step Recruiting Course available here.

Now if traditional old school prospecting online or offline is your thing and you want to stick to that, by all means, go for it.

There are many top trainers and earners in the industry that focus on cold market recruiting skills…

(And they do Internet Marketing too!)

For me, it was more important to live my life the way I wanted to. I would much rather make the money in my business first then have my friends and family beg me to tell them what it is all about. It’s much better than begging my friends and family to join a business which isn’t making any money.

Which would you prefer?
