7 Simple Steps To Help YOU Take Action, Gain Momentum, And Grab That Dream

Sorry to be the barer of bad news but sometimes it just has to be said…

Plus most of us already know this either consciously or unconsciously…

If YOU don’t taking ACTION, absolutely nothing happens!

You can fight this all you want but if you want different results you’ve gotta take action.

And taking action is actually coded in our genetics…

Why do you think there have been so many great explorers in history?

Why do you think we crossed an unknown ocean, crossed a hostile continent, and even went to the moon?

Studies show we are biologically wired to push forward and look for that new frontier.

In fact taking action actually released our body’s “happy chemicals” (dopamine and serotonin).

Plus the exact opposite happens when we indulge in our distractions, make excuses, overthink, rationalize, and other non-action things…

This behavior habit actually leaves us feeling stagnant and dissatisfied.

Remember there is no standing still in life you are either…

Moving forward or moving backwards!

How many of you remember this one…

JUST DO IT!

Yup that’s Nike’s old slogan.

Despite the fact I hate the political direction Nike has taken over the last couple of years…

Here’s what’s interesting…

Did you know this slogan has actually changed lives?

The “Just Do It” slogan actually inspired people from every walk of life to take action.

  • High schoolers got the courage to ask that special girl to the prom
  • Professionals got the courage to tackle bigger challenges
  • Entrepreneurs took bigger risks
  • Scores of people took responsibility for their fitness and health
  • Many women wrote to the ad agency and said they’d finally left their deadbeat husbands

Kinda cool isn’t it?

Well, now it's our turn.

It’s time to stop avoiding the growing pains!

And yes, this goes for everyone (including me).

All of us have serious room to grow.

And we’ll still experience that fear.

Here’s the truth about having fear – it’s not shameful.

I’ve experienced fear many times in my Air Force carrier.

In fact had a good friend told me one time, as we were planning a dangerous flight…

“If you’re not afraid to do this mission there’s something wrong with you!”

What’s important is not the fear but what you do in response to that fear.

And taking action is the cure to all fear!

Remember your action will dictate your results…

No action no results!

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, don’t sit at home and think about it. Go out and get busy.”
-- Dale Carnegie

So let’s get into the…

7 Simple Steps to Help YOU Take Action, Gain Momentum, and Grab That Dream!

Those who wait for the perfect conditions to get started…

Never get started.

They keep waiting for “the right place” and “the right time,” and you know what?

It’s exactly what fear wants.

Fear wants that next excuse to wait another day, week, month, year, or even a life time before you steps up to the plate and actually start playing the game.

Many of you know my wife and I are huge Disney fans.

If you don’t know take a listen to this short video:

The legendary Walt Disney said:

“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”

Let’s face it…

Those who keep waiting for the perfect conditions never get started.

If fact, if someone stays in this state of mind their entire life…

They become overwhelmed by regret when they realize they’ve missed many real opportunities to actually do something with their life.

And typically their life has come and gone because they waited for that “perfect opportunity” to put all the plans into action.

It’s like a river.

If you start at the top of the mountain and ride the river downstream without taking any action it will eventually…

Drop you at the lowest point.

And I’ve seen many lives end up just like this.

SAD! 🙁

The worst part is, in most cases, you don’t even realize its fear that held you back.

As I’ve said…it’s okay to be afraid.

But, to be successful at network marketing, or anything else for that matter…

You’ll have to grab hold of that courage, face your deepest, darkest fears, and take action.

Which leads to the next step…

Napoleon Hill said it best:

  • “The starting point of all achievement is DESIRE”
  • “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve”
  • “You are the master of your destiny”
  • “When defeat comes, accept it as a signal that your plans are not sound, rebuild those plans, and set sail once more toward your coveted goal”

Yes, he was a big believer in the “power of positive thinking” because he saw it over and over again in those who achieved great success in life.

Do you know positive thinking is an essential element in achieving that success you’re looking for?

In fact the opposite of positive thinking…

Negative thinking…

If executed places you on the path to failure before you even get started.

Now I don’t live in “la-la land” and I don’t think everything in life is positive.

Life has both positive and negative and both must be experienced at one time or another!

And let’s face it, life is full of ups and downs, and there are many things that can lead us to feel overwhelmed and frustrated.

So, how can we think positive when we can't even see the light at the end of the tunnel?

How can we be in a good mood when life is kicking our butt every day?

Every one of us has been here a number of times in our lives.

As Jim Rohn says “The same winds blow on us all.”

The difference between those who move forward in life and those who don’t is…

How you think about what is happening to you.

There’s always a silver lining to every bad situation; you just have to know where to look.

And one way to look at it is to celebrate even your smallest success.

In The Progress Principle…

Teresa Amabile a renowned Professor at Harvard Business School States…

There is great importance in keeping a journal to record small achievements that would otherwise be quickly forgotten.

When you realize you're actually moving in the right direction (even if it's one small step at a time)…

Optimism starts to drive you towards your goals, leaving self-doubt, overwhelm, fear, and anything else that held you back behind, allowing you to…

The lack of self-confidence causes people to lose motivation, keeps them in their comfort zone, and they never take any real chances.

Let’s face it; there’re people who have a hard time believing in themselves, especially when things don’t turn out as expected...

Which is going to happen to all of us!

Unfortunately, they tend to focus entirely on what they’re trying to achieve and lose sight of what they’ve already worked so hard to attain.

Basically, they forget any past successes and allow their present circumstances to totally control their future.

To be successful at network marketing, don't fall into the trap of believing stories that aren't true.

Failure is nothing but an opportunity to learn what didn’t work, refine it, and try again.

Michael Jordan once said:

“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game's winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that's why I succeed.”

Take a look back at everything you’ve accomplished so far; be mindful of the lessons you’ve learned along the way; then turn your attention back to your ultimate goals.

Once you’ve regained your self-confidence and motivation, gather all your strength and…

Gary Keller, author of The One Thing, said it well:

“You can do two things at once, but you can't focus effectively on two things at once.”

It’s an undeniable fact, focusing your attention on a single task is the best way to actually get things done.

As one of my mentors, JT Debolt, says…

Multitasking reduces productivity as much as 40%, and it actually lowers a person’s IQ by 10 points.

I’ve seen this often when coaching people…

They feel the need to tackle several goals at the same time.

The thought process goes like this…

I need to make the most out of every second spent on building my businesses.

This normally leads to doing too many things at one time.

This is what I’ve seen…

Someone starts to write an article, respond to email, call potential customers, and looks for prospects on Facebook while trying to design a lead capture page.

Ever been there?

Multitasking often means doing things carelessly and placing quantity over quality.

If you focus on one thing at a time, and work towards doing one goal at a time, you’ll make far more progress.

The progress will also be more tangible, since you’ll be taking longer strides towards one goal, rather than tiny steps in ten different directions.

This also significantly boosts your self-confidence, which is especially nice when you learn how to…

It’s human nature to feel good when you get a reward.

Did any of you ever get that shiny star for coloring inside the lines in kindergarten…

Or that dollar dad gave us for mowing the lawn?

If you have, you’ve been conditioned to expect a reward for getting something done.

Now, I know there are some of you who don’t expect to get rewarded for getting it done but think about this…

Humans are actually biochemically wired in this fashion, it’s part of our primitive brain.

In his book, The Power of Habit, Charles Duhigg explains how habits are formed in the basal ganglia (the primitive part of the human brain) through cues, routines, and rewards.

He calls it the “Habit Loop”…

And it starts with the cue, an event that triggers your brain to react on autopilot using one of your habits…

Then, an emotional, physical or mental routine follows…

And finally, the reward appears, which helps the brain decide whether a particular Habit Loop is worth remembering or not.

Now it’s very interesting and actually allows you, if used correctly, to create success in your network marketing BIZ.

Think about it; rewarding yourself is actually taking action!

Positive reinforcement aids you in developing and reinforcing good habits, which boost your self-confidence along the way.

Punishments work too. Habits work in either a positive or negative way.

So use the power of reward to create those habits so you can grab that dream.

Speaking of gabbing that dream, in order to stay in the “action zone,” you must…

I’m old enough to remember when there was no such thing as a computer.

In fact I actually remember being in the Air Force when the Communications Squadron dropped a computer on my desk and…

I didn’t ever know how to turn it on LOL. 🙂

However, today computers are not only common place but also extremely powerful tools…

They allow us to create content, organize every aspect of our lives, and even communicate with an old aviator friend on the other side of the world.

Think about how far we’ve come in such a short period of time.

However, computers also represent a hazard to your productivity.

Social media, instant messaging, and basically every website on the Internet can become major distractions, I see it every day.

Even our mobile devices are so powerful they can become a constant distraction!

CareerBuilder carried out a study recently…

In this study they found out 50% of employers surveyed considered cell phones and text messaging to be a major “productivity stopper” during work hours…

The runners up; gossip (42%), the Internet (39%) and social media (38%).

So in the age of smartphones, it’s easy to get distracted by email notifications, text messages, marketers, and all those other unexpected calls.

So here’s an idea; maybe it’s better to turn your phone off if you’re trying to get things done.

What I’ve found helps my students is when using a computer for work, work offline as much as possible, especially when you have to focus on a specific task.

There are times when is it necessary to avoid the “digital distractions” so you can keep your focus, especially if you are able to…

When I was in flight training I saw several people who didn’t make it.

And the reason was almost always their lack of commitment to getting through the tough training.

It’s critical to your success that once you start down a path and stick to it until it’s completed.

Even if you can’t find the motivation to keep going, never give up!

“I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance.”
– Steve Jobs

Like flight training, to be successful at network marketing, you must keep your ultimate goal in mind…

You must do whatever it takes to push through the adversities and challenges that will be thrown at you.

While others are busy making excuses to justify their failures, you need to focus on actually getting it done.

When your competitors are busy updating their Facebook status, you should concentrate on creating fresh content that will attract new followers and engage your audience.

When others fall prey to their fears, you should acknowledge your own and face them head on!

To succeed online, you’ve got to put yourself out there and get in front of people, even the haters.

Do you truly want to be an Attraction Marketer?

Then create stuff worth consuming.

  • If you want to be a writer… write!
  • If you want to be a blogger… blog!
  • If you want to be a podcaster… podcast!
  • If you want to be a video marketer… get in front of your camera and start talking!

There’s training on every subject imaginable if you only search it out

Like here.

But you don’t need to watch every webinar to get results.

In fact, to grab that dream you’ve been chasing, it’s critical you spend twice as much time executing as you do learning.

Remember…

Your business isn’t a spectator sport!

  • You can watch Tiger Woods swing a thousand times, but until you pick up a club, you’ll never learn the game
  • Don’t ask for permission
  • Don’t wait for someone to say, “You can do it”
  • Don’t seek approval
  • Don’t fear criticism or be too timid

Every single leader has made mistakes and faced uncertainty along their journey.

Plus life is a marathon and...

You don’t get to “fast-forward” through the hard stuff.

You will get knocked to the mat and have to choose to get back up again.

But it’s truly worth it!

If you want things you’ve never had you’ve got to do things you’ve never done.

It’s time to jump in the deep end, my friend.

Play a bigger game.

Expand your vision.

Make it happen.

In short…

Just do it.
