4 Steps To Become An Effective Leader

Leadership Seminars

Dynamic growth comes through personal development...

One tool to add are seminars to your personal development program.

Recently I had the pillage of attending a John Maxwell seminar hosted by my company.

During this seminar he focused on leadership and skill development.

So I went back and read one or his books again “The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader” and wanted to share Chapter 4 where he talks about...

How important communication is to leadership.

John stated “without it you travel alone.”

Does leadership come naturally to you?

For me it was a learning process.

And even though I had an extensive background in military leadership…

Network Marketing required additional skills.

And these skills where developed through personal development and leadership training…

Leadership Training

Why is this so important?

Ok I’ll fess up..

First of all I wasn’t making any money and was searching for the reason why.

Have you been there?

Not only that, but until I mastered communication skills, the big fear of rejection always took hold of me.

Plus (and this can happen to you) after my boss on the job "I hated" found out what I was doing and I couldn't communicate what I was doing well and the endless criticism started.

At first it was just talk about my lack of priorities to him.

Later he actually took work away from me and cut my income in half.

Have you been here?

If so there is a solution so let me introduce you to John Maxwell’s…

Leadership Development

In Chapter 4 of his book, John states there are 4 steps to effective communication…

Why is this so important to be an effective communicator?

First it helps you prospect better…

And it also helps you build a team that will duplicate.

So let’s get into it and cover the 4 steps that will help you become an effective leader through communications.

it is not what you say but how you say it.

For those of you who have had higher education, professors tend to complicate a message to impress the class with their knowledge.

But you should forget impressing someone and just keep the message clear, simple, and easy to understand.

The process of effective communication John recommends has helped me and hopefully can help you.

So when writing an article:

  • Open with excitement to grab attention
  • Then close with something that will make people act
  • And then put them together as close as possible in the middle

It is importance to focus on the person or audience you are talking to.

Remember the old saying God gave your two ears and one mouth so you could listen twice as much as you talk?

Well John states to be an effective communicator you must know something about who you are talking to and recommends asking yourself…

  • Who is my audience (or person you are talking to)?
  • What are their questions?
  • What needs to be accomplished?
  • How much time do I have?

This goes back to the issue of “people don’t care what you know until they know how much you care!”

In this step John talks about how important credibility is.

When I started my network marketing journey the people who always impacted me most had credibility...

How about you?

And those who had the credibility impacted my personal development process and became those great mentors that changed my business.

Credibility is the key to becoming a great communicator and John recommends…

  • First believe in what you are saying (…and get fired up about what you are doing)
  • Second live what you say (…there is no greater credibility than conviction through your actions)

You get the action you are looking for.

Just dumping information on someone is not communicating.

John recommends every time you community…

  • Give them something to feel
  • Give them something to remember
  • And give them something to do

If you can communicate in this fashion and get others to take action, your ability to lead others goes to a new level.

As John points out part of being a good leader is being a good communicator.

Communication is a skill that is vital to your success.

Once I mastered this skill my business began to grow!

And what I also found out is not only should you have a program of personal development (like John Maxwell’s books and seminars) but also be allied to a set of mentors to help you alone the journey.
